What is Champix?

Champix contains the active ingredient Varenicline, which is used to help people addicted to nicotine to quit smoking. It acts on the same receptors in the brain as nicotine. Varenicline works by stimulating the nicotinic receptors in the brain which produces an effect that relieves the cravings and blocks nicotine from acting on the nicotinic receptors. This prevents any nicotine inhaled in tobacco smoke from having a rewarding and enjoyable effect. When you are prescribed with Champix, you set a date to stop smoking and start taking tablets 1 or 2 weeks before this date (It is also called Champix Starter Pack). Treatment lasts for 12 weeks.
